If your child does not have a video game console or at least a PC, a shocking new study might convince you to buy him one. The study was conducted by W. Thomas Boyce, a respected psycho-biologist at the Leadership Chair of Child Development at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Forza Motorsport 4, one of the new car games that have graced the video game world, might convince you to specifically buy him an Xbox 360.
Dr. Boyce’s study has established that engaging in an activity like playing video games has a direct effect on the development of the pre-frontal cortex in kids. Video games requiring mental sharpness, creativity and reflexes promote better brain development. This is contrary to earlier uncollaborated reports that suggest that they slow mental growth. In a study conducted with 8 kids between the ages of ten and fourteen, those that came from households affluent enough to afford them entertainment tools like video game consoles showed more mental ability. These kids had better inductive reasoning, hypothesis testing, sharper memory and problem solving ability compared to their underprivileged peers.
The software giants at Microsoft have continued to show us their game-creativity side by teaming up with Turn 10 Studios to bring us Forza Motorsport 4, the fourth release in this much-celebrated racing series. If you do not already have enough reasons to surprise your kid with what is without argument one of the best car games for kids out there today, here are a three more!
Many parents, having already been gamers in their childhood and teen ages, are overly concerned that video games can cause repetitive strain injuries (RSI) to their kids. They are actually somewhat correct. Use of the conventional game controllers force the player to keep repeating certain movements like pressing buttons, jerking the arm and turning racing wheels. They may also condemn the player to a certain sitting position and coerce him into adopting a certain sitting position. Within a few hours, the involved parts of the body will be numb and sometimes even sore. Kids are relentless when it comes to video games. Car games for boys are especially addictive and they will go on and on playing through the numbness. Especially for boys, sore thumbs and arms are hardly a signal to take a break. It doesn’t have to be this way. You can have your kids thoroughly entertained with Forza Motorsport 4 without endangering their physical development.
The Kinect controller for the Xbox 360 is a revolutionary invention, and this is further evidenced by Sony’s and Nintendo’s rush to create similar wireless controllers for their consoles; the Playstation 3 and the Wii respectively. Being one of the best car games for kids and also one of the best racing games ever programmed for the Xbox, Forza Motorsport 4 fully supports Kinect. Now your kid can race his way to the finish line without having to handle a physical controller. He will get to use voice commands and gestures and drive his favorite cars as accurately as if he were to use a wired controller. With what a majestic add-on the Kinect is to the Xbox 360 console, it’s a no-brainer why it holds the Guinness record for ‘fastest selling consumer electronics device’.
Stunning Realism and Graphics
The critics who tried to assert that Forza Motorsport 4 is not a radical improvement from Forza Motorsport 3 will have to bow out in disgrace because this game features some of the best vehicle and scenery physics yet in a car game. It features over 500 cars, of which some are race cars while others are vehicles we drive in real life. Imagine your kid’s excitement at finding the family car in his favorite video game!
Great emphasis has been put into making sure that the cars look, accelerate and handle as realistically as possible. No other than the best car games for boys are programmed with the kind of graphics that Forza Motorsport 4 features.
Top Gear & Autovista
Autovista is a new feature in the game that allows the player to pace around the showroom (garage) and even enter the inside of their vehicles. They can have a clear view of the cars’ engine parts and gauges. If the player points at a part, say a headlight or a wheel, they can hear detailed information about it through sound. You will love whose voice they used for the commentary…
If you are a motor fanatic, then you definitely love Top Gear. Forza Motorsport 4 is a game you can definitely enjoy with your kids and if not the actual racing, then the Top Gear theme about Autovista. The audio commentary is done by renowned top gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson. Included among the 26 closed circuit tracks in Forza Motorsport 4 is the Top Gear track at Dunsfold Aerodrome in the UK complete with true-to-life camera angles during replays. That is not to forget two of Top Gears’ middle priced cars, the Suzuki Liana and a Kia hatchback.
If you are thinking of surprising your kid with one of the best new car games today, think Forza Motorsport 4.
